Bangkok Art Biennale 2026: A Practical Citywide Art Guide

Fictional visitor planning a citywide contemporary-art route across Bangkok

Bangkok Art Biennale returns for its fifth edition from 29 October 2026 to 28 February 2027. Under the theme Angels and Mara, contemporary work will appear across temples, museums, cultural institutions and commercial spaces rather than inside one festival compound.

That citywide format is part of the appeal, but it changes how a visit should be planned. The current official programme lists 11 venues, and their opening days, admission arrangements and transport patterns are not identical. Instead of trying to collect every stop in one rushed day, choose a geographic cluster, confirm the live venue information, and leave time for Bangkok weather and traffic.

This independent visitor guide was researched from Bangkok Art Biennale and host-venue sources on 17 October 2026. It is not produced by or affiliated with the Biennale. Programme details can change; follow the official BAB map and venue notices before travelling.

Bangkok Art Biennale 2026 at a glance

  • Dates: 29 October 2026–28 February 2027.
  • Theme: Angels and Mara.
  • Scale: the BACC event page currently describes more than 200 works by 72 artists from 29 nationalities across 11 venues.
  • Format: a distributed exhibition across central Bangkok, the old city and the Chao Phraya riverside.
  • Official planning sources: the Bangkok Art Biennale website, its current venue list and map, and each host venue’s own visitor information.

One detail deserves early attention: at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, the seventh- and eighth-floor galleries are listed for the full Biennale period, but the ninth-floor section is currently listed only from 29 October to 25 November 2026. Visitors who want the complete BACC presentation should therefore check the programme before that shorter section closes.

The 11 official venues

The current BAB 2026 venue page lists:

  1. Wat Pho
  2. Wat Arun
  3. Wat Prayoon
  4. National Museum Bangkok
  5. Art Centre, Silpakorn University
  6. Museum Siam
  7. Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC)
  8. Alliance Française Bangkok
  9. One Bangkok
  10. centralwOrld
  11. Siam Paragon

The official venue page also contains a “Recommended Routes” section with dates and stops from the 2024 edition. Those older schedules should not be used as 2026 operating information. Until BAB publishes a fully updated 2026 route timetable, use the current 11-venue list above and check the organiser’s map, announcements and host-venue pages on the day.

Build the visit around four practical clusters

The following clusters are an editorial planning method, not an official BAB itinerary. They reduce cross-city transfers while keeping each day flexible.

1. Pathum Wan: BACC, Siam Paragon and centralwOrld

This is the simplest rail-based cluster. BACC connects to BTS National Stadium through its third-floor entrance. Siam Paragon is at BTS Siam, while centralwOrld is in the adjoining Ratchaprasong area. The precise BAB placement inside the two commercial venues should be checked on the official map before setting out.

BACC is the main anchor. Its visitor page lists Tuesday–Sunday opening from 10:00 to 20:00, closure on Mondays, and free entry to exhibitions except special events. The BAB page places the exhibition in the main galleries on floors seven, eight and nine. Large backpacks, umbrellas and bags over the stated size must be left in the fifth-floor lockers before entering the main galleries, and photography rules can vary by work.

Plan this cluster when: you want one substantial exhibition stop with two smaller central-city venues and minimal dependence on road transport.

2. Sanam Chai and the river: Museum Siam, Wat Pho, Wat Arun and Wat Prayoon

MRT Sanam Chai gives this cluster a clear starting point. Museum Siam’s official visitor page lists Exit 1, Tuesday–Sunday opening from 10:00 to 18:00, closure on Mondays and a standard adult admission of THB 100. Its regular museum ticket is not necessarily the same thing as access to a BAB work, so confirm the current arrangement at the venue.

Wat Pho is nearby on Sanam Chai Road. Its official visitor page currently lists daily opening from 08:00 to 19:30, a THB 300 admission charge for foreign visitors, and respectful dress. Across the river, the Tourism Authority of Thailand currently lists Wat Arun as open daily from 08:00 to 18:00 with a THB 200 foreign-adult admission charge. A cross-river ferry links the Tha Tien side with Wat Arun, but pier operation and queues should be checked on the day.

Wat Prayoon sits farther west near Memorial Bridge. Do not treat it as a quick extension if the day is already full. Current public sources give differing general temple hours, and BAB-specific access may be narrower, so verify the Biennale’s live venue notice before making it the final stop.

Plan this cluster when: you can devote most of a day to a mix of contemporary art, active religious sites and river transfers.

3. Old Bangkok: National Museum and Art Centre, Silpakorn University

The National Museum Bangkok and Silpakorn University’s Wang Tha Phra art centre form a useful old-city pairing. The Fine Arts Department currently lists the National Museum as open Wednesday–Sunday from 08:30 to 16:00 and closed Monday–Tuesday. The Art Centre’s own site lists gallery hours of Monday–Saturday, 09:00–18:00, at 31 Na Phra Lan Road.

These schedules overlap on Wednesday–Saturday, but BAB access can differ from the host institution’s normal hours. Begin with the earlier-closing venue, confirm final admission times, and allow for security checks and the possibility of a royal, religious or public event affecting local movement.

Plan this cluster when: you prefer museums and university exhibition space, or want an alternative to a ferry-dependent day.

4. Lumphini and Wireless Road: One Bangkok and Alliance Française

One Bangkok is directly connected to MRT Lumphini Exit 1 through an underground route into the Parade retail zone. One Bangkok currently lists retail hours of 10:00–22:00, but the BAB installation’s own accessible hours still need to be checked separately.

Alliance Française Bangkok is at 179 Wireless Road. Its current access page recommends MRT Lumphini Exit 1, continuing through One Bangkok and using the One Bangkok shuttle connection where available. The shuttle arrangement and any BAB gallery hours can change, so the cultural programme or official BAB map should remain the source of truth.

Plan this cluster when: you want a compact modern-city route anchored by MRT rather than the river or old-city roads.

Do not confuse host hours with exhibition access

A mall may remain open after an installation closes. A museum can require a ticket even when a particular artwork is free to see. A temple may pause visitor access for worship, ceremonies or site operations. For every stop, check four separate points:

  • the BAB work’s exhibition dates at that venue;
  • the room, floor or compound in which it is installed;
  • the latest admission time and any ticket needed for the host venue;
  • same-day closure, ceremony, performance or access notices.

This distinction matters most at the temples and at BACC’s ninth-floor gallery, whose currently published end date is earlier than the overall Biennale closing date.

Temple etiquette is part of the route

Wat Pho, Wat Arun and Wat Prayoon are active religious sites, not neutral exhibition halls. Wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees, remove shoes where required, speak quietly, and follow staff instructions around worship areas and artworks. Do not touch artworks, religious objects or structures. Photography may be limited even when general photography is allowed elsewhere in the compound.

Allow more time than a map suggests. Admission lines, ferry queues, heat, rain and the need to move respectfully through sacred spaces all affect the day.

A realistic one-, two- or three-day plan

If you have one day

Choose one cluster. BACC plus the two Pathum Wan commercial venues offers the most straightforward public-transport pattern. The Sanam Chai and river cluster gives a stronger heritage context but introduces tickets, dress requirements and a ferry transfer.

If you have two days

Combine one central-city day with one old-city or river day. This gives space for a museum closure pattern and avoids forcing early-closing venues into the end of a long route.

If you have three days

Use separate days for Pathum Wan, the Sanam Chai–river group, and either the National Museum–Silpakorn or One Bangkok–Alliance Française group. Decide which smaller cluster to add only after the official 2026 venue map confirms hours and work locations.

Plan for weather, mobility and photography

Late October and the following months can still bring heat, strong sun and changing rain conditions. Carry water where permitted, use sun protection for outdoor temple sections, and keep a light rain plan. The Class Bespoke rainy-day Bangkok guide explains a flexible BTS-based planning method without pretending that public transport removes every exposed transfer.

Accessibility differs by venue and by the location of each artwork inside a historic or religious site. BACC lists lifts, accessible toilets and wheelchairs on request. For other venues, contact the host directly about step-free access to the specific BAB work rather than relying on a general building description.

At BACC, still photographs are generally allowed in the main galleries unless a work says otherwise, but flash, tripods and selfie sticks are prohibited, and commercial use requires permission. Treat every venue’s posted rules as controlling.

Fitting the Biennale around a Bangkok appointment

If a tailoring consultation is part of the trip, keep it as a confirmed appointment rather than squeezing it between uncertain venue transfers. The international visitor guide explains how to share firm travel dates and fitting availability. Use the Class Bespoke branches page for the current showroom addresses and maps, then contact the team to request a real appointment window.

Do not infer a tailoring timetable from the Biennale route. Garment feasibility depends on the item, cloth, construction, workshop capacity and fitting work required.

Questions visitors ask about Bangkok Art Biennale 2026

When is Bangkok Art Biennale 2026?

The official dates are 29 October 2026 to 28 February 2027. Individual venue or gallery sections can have shorter dates; BACC currently lists its ninth-floor section only until 25 November 2026.

What is the 2026 theme?

The fifth edition is titled Angels and Mara. The organisers describe it as an exploration of apparent opposites and the tensions between virtue, desire, fear, identity, memory and transformation.

How many Bangkok Art Biennale 2026 venues are there?

The current official BAB website lists 11 venues across temples, museums, cultural institutions and commercial spaces in Bangkok.

Is Bangkok Art Biennale 2026 free?

Do not assume that every stop is free. BACC normally offers free exhibition entry except for special events, while temples and museums may charge their regular admission. Check the BAB notice and host venue separately before visiting.

Can I see every venue in one day?

It is not a practical plan for most visitors. The venues cross several districts and include different closure days, ticketing arrangements and transport modes. Choose one geographic cluster per day.

Which venue should I visit first?

There is no universal best starting point. BACC is the largest concentration shown on the current venue page and is directly connected to BTS National Stadium. Visitors more interested in temple settings may prefer the Sanam Chai and river cluster. Check the official map and current programme before deciding.
