Why are Custom Made Tailor Suits in Bangkok Expensive?

The price of a tailored suit depends on its specification rather than one universal factor. The selected cloth, construction, garment complexity, fitting and adjustment requirements, and finishing all affect the final quotation.

Material Quality and Source

Cloth can differ substantially in fibre composition, weight, weave, finish, origin and current availability. Wool and wool blends, linen, cotton, cashmere and blended textiles each behave differently, so price should be considered together with drape, breathability, durability and the garment’s intended use.

A mill name, country of origin or Super number should be confirmed from the selected cloth label rather than assumed. Current collections and stock change, and a higher price or Super number does not by itself make a cloth more suitable. The fabric selection should be evaluated for the commission as a whole.

Skilled Craftsmanship and Labor

Individual measurements, posture assessment, pattern and style specifications, cutting, assembly, fittings, adjustments, pressing and finishing all require time and skilled work. The amount of work varies with the garment and construction rather than being identical for every commission.

Detailed Construction Process

Construction is another important cost driver. A jacket may use basic or fused construction, half canvas or full canvas depending on the agreed specification. These options involve different internal structures, production steps and amounts of handwork; they should not be treated as interchangeable.

The fitting schedule also depends on the garment, construction, adjustments and whether the client is new or returning. First-time suit commissions generally involve approximately two to three visits where the garment and schedule require them. The consultation and fitting process is confirmed for each commission.

Location and Operating Costs

A quotation also reflects the operating structure behind the service, including consultation space, workshop activity, fittings and client support. Location and overhead are relevant business costs, but they do not establish garment quality on their own.

When comparing Bangkok tailors, ask what the quotation includes: garment pieces, selected cloth, construction, fittings, finishing details and any arrangements required for the client’s schedule.

Tailoring Time and Effort

Timing is confirmed for each commission and should not be used as a simple measure of quality. Current planning ranges are approximately 3–5 days for standard jacket construction, 5–10 days for half canvas and 15–30 days for full canvas. These are planning ranges rather than guarantees; eligible basic or fused rush work must be confirmed in advance.
